The leadership of the ANC in Chris Hani Region is observing and noting with great concern the unfolding mudslinging involving the registration status of the Provincial Chairperson of the ANC in the Eastern Cape, Cde Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane. We are the first ones to acknowledge that under normal circumstances, this should be a confidential matter between the student and the University. Unfortunately, the misleadership, mismanagement and miscommunication of the University in handling this matter has brought us to this point.
The mishandling of this issue goes to challenge the credibility of the qualification in question, the Masters in Public Administration with serious ramifications for those who have already gone through the programme.
The unbecoming behaviour and underhanded conduct of the management of Fort Hare on this matter removes all threads of doubt on the existence of a concerted effort to taint the image of our Provincial Chairperson. The inaction by the University authorities on this justice leaves room to believe that the VC is party to leading this onslaught.
The University has deliberately compromised the student-university confidentiality.
The ANC in Chris Hani Region fully understands and appreciates the plight of the students who are currently taking it to the streets to demand eradication of financial and academic exclusions. We stand in full support of their call for free quality education as an investment in the future of our country.
At the height of the financial and academic exclusions that are taking place across the country, the mismanagement of the UFH cannot go without consequences.
If this level of vitimisations can be meted against the whole Provincial Chairperson and Premier, how much more about other deserving students who may suffer the same fate in silence.
The ill-treatment and injustice of our Provincial Chairperson is a monumental betrayal of the vision of opening the doors of learning. To the contrary, the management of the UFH is actively gatekeeping access to higher education.
The practice of RPL is an established process of acknowledging and recognizing the knowledge that may have been acquired in the various spheres of life including experience acquired in the real world of the.
As a reminder, here we are talking about a person who was a Chief of Staff for 5 years, a Managing Director of a consulting company for 4 years, MPL and MEC, a Provincial Secretary of a governing party, the ANC for 8 yrs dealing with the political administration and operations of the organisation, public policy planning, implementation , monitoring and evaluation in government. This illustrious professional background far exceeds the minimum entry requirements through RPL.
The ANC in Chris Hani Region calls for a forensic investigation into the glaring mismanagement of this matter without sparing any element of the chain of command and decision making structures of the University who may have a hand in this injustice. By this call, we are not seeking special treatment for our Provincial Chairperson, but a fair and just process that can be applied with consistency to any other student on an equal basis.
If left unchallenged, the behavior of the management of the University is playing an active role in eroding the prestige of our glorious University, uNokholeji.
