ANC EC CONDEMNS ATTACK ON PORT ST JOHNS MAYOR

The African National Congress (ANC)in the Eastern Cape strongly condemns threats and attack on the house of Port St Johns Mayor, Comrade Nomvuzo Mlombile-Cingo .

An attack on councillors is an attack on democracy itself because councillors are elected representatives of the people. South Africa has experienced a proliferation of violent crimes and the high levels of crime poses a serious threat to our emergent democracy.

We encourage our communities to raise their concerns in a constructive manner, through the correct channels with municipalities in any areas of dissatisfaction and not resort to violent attacks and arson.

Violating the rights of others while making your voice heard, attacking people who are doing their jobs to serve society and destroying homes and threatening our public representatives actually works against us all as society.

We call on law enforcement agencies to do all in their power in unearthing the root cause of this barbaric attack to the mayor and bring the perpetrators to book.

END….
