The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape is deeply saddened by news of the passing of one of the movement’s foremost organizers, Comrade Arthur Zweloxolo Mxi.
Comrade Zweloxolo Mxi passed away yesterday, Sunday 9th January 2022 at home in Komani at the age of 68 years after a short illness.
Comrade Mxi spent all his youth and adult life in the Congress Movement. He was part of the leadership that initiated the formation of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) whilst working at the Elandsrand Mines in Carltornville. He was instrumental in the formation of the labour federation (COSATU). Comrade Mxi returned to the former Transkei after the release of political prisoners and unbanning of political organizations where he worked tirelessly to build structures of the ANC. He worked at the ANC offices in Engcobo and served as a councillor at Intsika Yethu Local Municipality and Regional Organiser of the ANC Chris Hani Region. Comrade Mxi also served as the Chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) at Intsika Yethu Local Municipality from 2016 to 2021.
The ANC is deeply pained by the loss of such an experienced public representative , a humble people`s servant, an organizer and an outstanding activist. He was truly a reservoir of political knowledge whose immense contribution to debates within the structures our glorious movement.
We dip our revolutionary banner in honour of this fallen hero , dedicated cadre of our movement, a revolutionary and an unassuming leader who served and led African National Congress unconditionally.
We send out deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Mxi family, friends and comrades in the Chris Hani Region.
