The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape has learnt with great sadness of the passing away of a veteran of our movement, Cde Dan Plam on Saturday ( 30th June 2018 ) after a long illness . 96 year-old Cde Dan Plam was a member of the ANC Veterans League and became part of the 1950’s Defiance Campaign.
Cde Plam was born in 1922 at eMxelo Village, Alice. He participated in the 1955 Defiance Campaign activities against pass laws and that is where he cut his teeth in the liberation struggle. He was arrested and spent time in Robben Island.
This loss will be felt not only within the ANC in Province , but throughout the broader structures of the ANC, alliance partners and the mass democratic movement, including the community of the Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality.
Cde Dan Plam served the ANC with loyalty and distinction throughout his adult life and we are therefore devastated to lose a person of his calibre who still had a lot to share with the movement. We dip our revolutionary flag in honour of this servant of the people.
The ANC sends its heartfelt condolences to Cde Plam’s family and friends and wishes them strength in this difficult time of loss. He is survived by his children and grandchildren.
May his soul rest in peace.
Funeral details will be forwarded later. Family contact details are as follows:Ms Nomalizo @ 0823978588/ 0719971350.
