ANC EC MOURNS THE PASSING OF CDE SAM MAZOSIWE

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape mourns the passing of struggle stalwart and former sport administrator , Comrade Sam Mazosiwe .

Comrade Sphiwo Sam Mazosiwe was born in dusty streets of Dorrington location at Bhofolo now known as Maqoma .He went through local Primary Schools and further attained Junior and Matric certificates in Lawson Secondary and Jabavu High Schools respectively. Cde Mazosiwe felt obliged to assist his parents after matriculation by seeking employment in Ciskei Territorial Authority ( CTA) whilst studying privately to advance his academic career.

On political front Cde Zosi as he was affectionately known could not escape the influence of Tatu Daweti and Rev Makhenkesi Stofile from Bhofolo and Dikeni respectively as his political mentors. The influence of these political giants compelled Cde Mazosiwe to heed the call of President O R Tambo of swelling the ranks of mass mobilization and ANC Underground together with international isolation of apartheid through involvement in United Democratic Front (UDF)and Non-Racial Sport led by SACOS. In pursuing non racial sport he played for Zwelitsha All Blacks, AmaBholantaba as a star left winger where he got KCD and Border Rugby Union colours. When the repressive Ciskeian government expelled Cdes Nyondo , Tyulu , Maku and Mali from Ciskei, Cde Zosi assumed the role of rugby leadership with other Comrades in defiance of homeland system whilst he was still in the peak of his rugby career. In Zwelitsha Cde Mazosiwe took up the civic struggles which led to him serving as Border SANCO regional leader. Without fear or favour non amongst revolutionaries can deny the fact that freedom enjoyed by all of us today is due to sterling efforts of Cde Zosi and others.

Not only has Comrade Mazosiwe distinguished himself as a disciplined cadre of the ANC, he served the ruling party with distinction in various capacities where he was deployed. He put the interests of the ANC and the people of South Africa above anything else, having served as a senior member of the SANCO , member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature, MEC of Local Government and a Member of Parliament (MP) in the National Assembly. He departs mother earth deeply involved in consolidating efforts of uniting South African National Civic Organization.

No amount of words or speech could describe a sense of loss that has befallen the people of eQonce , Eastern Cape and South Africa in general.

We have lost a valuable asset, intellectual giant, gallant fighter, a man of the people. We pride ourselves in his soft-spokenness, simplicity and humility. We have lost a dedicated cadre – someone who was always ready to roll up his sleeves and work in the interest of the people of South Africa. We send our condolences to his family, relatives and friends.

May his soul rest in peace.

END….
