ANC EC STATEMENT ON THE AUDITOR GENERAL’S AUDIT OUTCOMES

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape welcomes reports of 11 clean audits achieved by Eastern Cape Provincial Government Departments and Entities in the 2021/2022 financial year which the Auditor General described as the highest number of clean audits in the history of the province .

These good audit outcomes are an indication of the work being done towards ensuring accountability and promoting the integrity of the public service in the province. The ANC led Provincial Government remains committed to clean governance and transparency in the prudent management of the public purse. Key to achieving this must be our intolerance for incompetence, poor performance and corruption.

As we encourage all spheres of government to attain our stated objective of clean audits, we equally call on local government sphere to be steadfast in ensuring that they achieve clean audit outcomes which must be equated to service delivery to our communities.

AG has also commended our development zones, the East London Industrial Development Zone (ELIDZ) and Coega IDZ, for maintaining their clean audit status and exceeding their targets for the number of new investors in the 2021/22 financial year.

These clean audit outcomes represents a major achievement for the current 6th administration and a demonstration of the persistent commitment to clean government under Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane and must be sustained.
