The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape has learnt with great shock and sadness of the sudden passing away of Cde Justice Lungisile Zotwa on Wednesday (1st January 2020) after a short illness.
The 53 year old accomplished entrepreneur and business leader, played a critical role in the pursuit of black economic empowerment and the struggle for the deracialisation of the ownership and control of the South African economy.
His passing is a great blow to the ANC of which he was an active and committed member, as well as to the black business fraternity in which he was a towering figure – playing a formative role in driving Black Economic Empowerment (BEE).
Cde Justice Zotwa was a pioneer of black economic empowerment and a role model for many young black entrepreneurs. He served in various capacities advancing economic empowerment. He was a visible leader in business and business organisations.
He played a prominent role in Nafcoc as the Eastern Cape Provincial Chairperson and Provincial Secretary for some time. Zotwa’s activism in the black business sector dated back to the early 90′ where he played an active role in the chamber movement. He will forever be remembered for his commitment and selflessness towards creating an inclusive and transformed economy.
We will always remember Cde Zotwa as the distinguished South African who loved this country and his organisation the ANC more than anything else. We thank the Zotwa family for allowing him the space to serve his country and his people. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful life so well lived with all of us.
The African National Congress extends its heartfelt condolences to the Zotwa family, friends and colleagues and pray for them to have strength during this difficult time.
