The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape has received complaints from some branches and individual ANC members across the province with the main concentration at Dr WB Rubusana and Amathole Region -complaining about the manipulation of the ANC processes and flouting of ANC 2021 Guidelines for Local Government Candidate Selection.
This culminated with protests to the ANC Provincial Office at Calata House with branches and members of the ANC claiming that they have been denied their democratic right to nominate and vote for their choice of Ward Candidates. Some members claim that the processes have been manipulated or abused by ‘gate-keepers’ in order to impose candidates of their choice and ignore the views of the communities.
The guidelines are very clear that public must be given a fair chance to selection of candidates according to their choice. ANC Ward Candidates must enjoy good standing in the community and therefore they must have blessings of the broader community.
Due to seriousness of these allegations -the ANC Eastern Cape Extended PEC Meeting resolved to appoint an investigation committee to investigate these allegations and if there are leaders of the ANC who deliberately manipulated the processes, the ANC wouldn’t hesitate to act harshly. If any of the candidates were wrongly selected – the ANC will have no choice but to remedy that situation.
