The African National Congress (ANC) is intensifying its efforts to unite all ex-combatants of uMkhonto weSizwe (MK).
The 54th National conference held in NASREC in 2017, resolved that there should be a single ex-MK formation. The ANC NEC tasked the Peace and Stability Sub-Committee to drive this process under the leadership of Comrade Tony Yengeni with the aim to:
– Unite all ex MK combatants.
– Audit and verify all former ex MK veterans.
– Look into the socio- economic needs of Ex MK members.
– Organize an inclusive national conference and champion the welfare needs of former combatants.
As part of driving the unity project, the ANC NEC Peace and Stability Sub-Committee, together with the joint structure comprising of both uMkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) and uMkhonto we Sizwe National Council (MKNC) representatives will visit all nine provinces on the weekend of 29 February to 1 March 2020.
The visits will be used to brief the whole Ex-MK community on progress and state of preparation towards the forthcoming all-inclusive Ex-MK members’ unity national conference, and to share and discuss the draft constitution and conference guidelines. The ex-MK members’ unity national conference is scheduled for the 12th to 15th March 2020.
We encourage all ex-MK combatants to attend these briefings in their respective provinces so that they can be well-informed and prepared for the forth-coming conference.
