ANC notes the resignation of Minister Malusi Gigaba

The ANC notes the decision by Minister Malusi Gigaba to resign from his position as Minister of Home Affairs, effective from today, 13 November 2018.

Cde Malusi took this decision after discussion with the President of the Republic. He truly acted in the spirit of the 54th ANC National Conference, which calls upon all cadres of the ANC at all times to act in the interest of the movement and the country at large. This gesture will help restore the integrity and values of the movement.

Comrade Malusi’s decision to step aside is a sign of the increasing maturity of our democracy, and of leadership willing to put the country ahead of their own individual situations. As indicated in his letter of resignation, this does not constitute an admission of guilt on his part, but will allow him sufficient time and space to reflect and attend to the current challenges.

We commend cde Malusi for choosing the revolution over himself and to place the interest of the ANC and the country above his own. Comrade Malusi remains a committed and disciplined member of the ANC, currently serving in its National Executive Committee.
