The African National Congress officially opened the Chris Hani House on the 27th and 28th of September 2024 in Komani. The inaugural opening of the Chris Hani house was officiated by the Secretary General of the African National Congress Comrade Fikile Mbalula. In his address after ribbon cutting, the ANC Secretary General commented and appreciated the leadership and membership of the ANC in Chris Hani region for stability, unity, peace, tranquility and for ensuring that we add the Chris Hani House in the Asset Register of the ANC.
The newly acquired property was named the Chris Hani House in honour of Comrade Martin Chris Tembisile Hani, the Former Head and Chief of Staff of Umkhonto we Sizwe and General-Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Comrade Chris was born in the 28 June 1942 in the Sabalele rural village in Cofimvaba, in the Chris Hani Region and he dedicated all his life to the struggle for freedom until he was assassinated by right-wing Apartheid extremist Janusz Walu? on 10 April 1994. In remembrance of our People’s Hero, Revolutionary communist and Martyr comrade Chris Hani, let us use this period or moment to celebrate the exemplary life of this loyal servant and great leader of our people – Chris Hani’s name shall never be forgotten. We remember the words of the fierce opponent of Apartheid Comrade Chris Hani when he said “Socialism is about decent shelter for those who are homeless. It is about water for those who have no safe drinking water. It is about health care, it is about a life of dignity for the old. It is about overcoming the huge divide between urban and rural areas. It is about a decent education for all our people. Socialism is about rolling back the tyranny of the market. As long as the economy is dominated by an unelected, privileged few, the case for socialism will exist.”
