PREMIER TO MONITOR IMPLEMENTATION OF COVID19 INTERVENTION PLAN

– Premier to assess disinfection of Taxi and bus ranks

-Premier to monitor work being done by health workers at the Nelson Mandela Academic hospital

The Premier of the Eastern Cape Province, Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane will conduct monitoring of the provincial government’s COVID19 containment plan intervention when he visits Mthatha tomorrow morning.

Mabuyane will focus on the disinfection of taxi and bus ranks in the Mthatha CBD that is carried out by the provincial department of Transport.

The main purpose of the disinfection is to curb the spread of the transmission of coronavirus in the public transport hubs in the province that are being used by the public and essential service workers during the lockdown.

Also key on the Premier’s monitoring schedule is the monitoring visit to the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha to check work being done by health workers in line with the CVOID19 containment plan of the provincial government.

The Eastern Cape provincial government has availed hospital wards such as ICUs to be ready for patients who might need intensive health care, test specimen from the public, provide protective clothing to the employees working at the public health facilities in the province.

Health centres like hospitals provide testing, quarantine and isolation to people infected by the corona virus and the Nelson Mandela Academic hospital is one of the facilities earmarked for this service.

On the first day of the mass screening and testing in the Eastern Cape, about 49 people were screened, 26 people had their specimen taken for testing at the National Health Laboratory Services.
