The African National Congress (ANC) mourns the passing of the President of the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) John Dlamini after a short illness.
Comrade John Dlamini served municipal workers across the country with the utmost distinction. This revolutionary and champion of the working class never wavered nor tired, but used every ounce of his energy and every fibre of his being to pursue the struggle of the working class with remarkable zeal and commitment.
He served as Deputy Provincial Chairperson of COSATU in KwaZulu-Natal. This was an unequivocal demonstration of faith in the leadership of Comrade John Dlamini to lead the workers and to serve as the embodiment of their aspirations.
The ANC salutes him for his steadfast commitment to justice and for the total emancipation of the people of South Africa from oppression and exploitation.
The ANC sends its heartfelt condolences to his family, the entire labour movement and the mass democratic movement. We wish them strength and fortitude during this difficult moment.
May his revolutionary soul rest in power
