ANC EC MOURNS PASSING AWAY OF CDE SIMTHEMBILE KULU

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape received with shock the news of the untimely passing away of PEC member and Alfred Nzo District Municipality Speaker, Comrade Simthembile Kulu. Comrade Kulu died in a car accident yesterday (Monday 20 December 2021) afternoon on the N2 road between Kokstad and Mount Ayliff.

We have been robbed of a selfless cadre who was at all times, ready to serve his people selflessly with utmost dedication and commitment. He served the people of this Province and the African National Congress (ANC) his political home, in many ways and in various capacities. We have all lost a deployee par excellence and a pillar of strength. We have lost a living embodiment of the spirit of ubuntu and humility. And we have lost a great human being who lived his life with the sole purpose of serving our people, and with the resolve to do so. He served as the Regional Organiser serving parts of (OR Tambo and Joe Gqabi Regions) leading political education programs through PETU.

Comrade Kulu joined Umzimvubu Local Municipality in 2006 as a Section 56 Manager responsible for SPU & Communications in the Office of the Mayor. ANC deployed him as an MMC for IGR and Communications in 2016 at Alfred Nzo District Municipality. Comrade Kulu’s outstanding leadership traits were affirmed by the ANC when he was elected Speaker of Alfred Nzo District Municipality in 2018. He was re-elected after the 01 November 2021 Local Government Elections as Speaker for this current term at Alfred Nzo District Municipality.

Comrade Simthembile Kulu remained active in the structures of our glorious movement, having served as a Regional Executive Committee (REC) member of Alfred Nzo Region and Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) member elected at the ANC Eastern Cape 8th Provincial Conference in 2017. Comrade Kulu also chaired the Education Subcommittee of the ANC PEC.

He remained an outspoken advocate for the renewal and restoration of the integrity and values of the movement he served all his life.

We mourn the loss of this gentle giant, whose life was one of service, excellence, and love for his people and movement. We take this opportunity to thank his family for having shared his valuable life with the majority of disadvantaged South Africans. His mark will be a symbol of determination to be emulated by future generations.

The ANC Eastern Cape extends its deepest condolences to Comrade Simthembile Kulu’s family, relatives, comrades, ANC Caucus of Alfred Nzo District Municipality and everyone who held him dear.

Farewell Nxasana!

Hamba kahle Skhonza !

Lala ngoxolo Mkhiwa !
