The ANC in the O. R. Tambo Region Congratulates the Class of 2024 and the Eastern Cape provincial government on achieving an impressive 84.9% pass rate.
This pass rate is by far the best performance in the province ever since the dawn of our democracy. The performance of the matriculants has been on an upward trajectory at least the last four years with 45 000 Bachelor passes in the Class of 2024. This has vindicated the strategy employed by MEC Fundile Gade and his team in ensuring that our education outcomes are achieved.
We salute the Department of Basic Education, teachers, South African Democratic Teachers Union, school governing bodies, parents and other partners in basic education for working hard to achieve the overall matric pass rate of 84.9% which represents an improvement of 3.6% attained by the Class of 2023. A special commendation also goes to the O.R Tambo Coastal District under the stewardship of District Director, Dr Peyana, for being recognized as the most improved district from 78.3% to 83.9% and also Inland improving from 79.6% to 83%.
This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the challenging conditions that learners in the O.R Tambo District face. Their resilience and determination to succeed amidst adversity are truly inspiring. These young scholars have shown that with hard work and dedication, they can overcome obstacles and reach their goals considering the fact that they are coming from working class communities.
To those learners who could not make it, there is still future for them. They should not despair as success is also measured by the numbers of times one falls and is able to stand up. There are many opportunities for them to explore, and their educators will be able to assist them.
As you move forward, remember that your education is a powerful tool that can bring about positive change in your communities and beyond. We commend your efforts and look forward to seeing the impact of your success in the years to come.
