The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape welcomes the swift action by the South African Police Services(SAPS) in arresting the three suspects related to the murder of Emalahleni Local Municipality Chief Whip and ANC Chris Hani REC member, Comrade Xoliseka Lali.
According to the statement from the Office of the Provincial Commissioner:
“following intensive investigations by the Eastern Cape Provincial Serious Violent Crime unit, critical information was pursued which led investigators to Mthatha.
“Tuesday, 29 July 2025, three suspects – two males and one female aged between 37 and 42– were apprehended.
“The suspects have been formally charged with murder and will appear before the Queenstown Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday, 30 July 2025.”
What is more shocking, one of the suspects is a senior official at Emalahleni Local Municipality.
We praised the police for the arrests and we urge the law enforcement agencies in collaboration with NPA to work hard to ensure that the killers are convicted.
We believe that these arrests will assist in discouraging crime in our country which continues to preoccupy the agenda of our law enforcement agencies.
The ANC denounces the killing of our comrades and call on the public to continue providing information which will help the law enforcement agencies to put a stop to this scourge.
