ANC EC condemns hooliganism and disruption of branch general meeting

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape is shocked and disgusted by the hooliganism which was displayed by people who disrupted a meeting and beat up Cde Thando Gebengana on Sunday,7 October 2018, during the branch general meeting held at Ward 60( Wells Estate), in the Nelson Mandela Region.

These sinister acts can never be condoned especially coming from people who claim to belong to our organisation. Cde Thando Gebengana and other members were assaulted by a rented crowd masquerading as comrades.

This is totally unacceptable and these people have crossed the line.We last saw this conduct from the vigilante groups that were sponsored by the apartheid regime in the 1980’s.

These barbaric acts of violence are not in the tradition of the ANC, the ANC was founded and it still remains a peaceful but revolutionary organisation.

The ANC will not be kowtowed by sponsored hooliganism at our meetings anywhere in the Province. The ANC PWC has taken a decision to apply Rule 25.56 to temporarily suspend all those identified members with immediate effect.

We wish all our comrades who were injured by the hooligans a speedy recovery. We will soldier on to advance our programs and campaigns without fear, favour or prejudice.
