The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape has learnt with sadness about the untimely passing of former Nelson Mandela Bay Councillor , struggle activist and South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) NEC member, Comrade Mluleki Aubrey Mali. He has been in hospital for some time due to ill health and passed away yesterday, Monday 15th May 2023.
Comrade Aubrey Mali from the dusty streets of Kwa Langa in Kariega (formerly known as Uitenhage) became involved in the struggle for liberation in about the 1970’s as a student and youth activist under Uitenhage Youth Congress (UYCO) but later on focussed on civic and labour movement during the era of Uitenhage Residents Civil Organization (URECO) and (Motor and Component Workers Union of South Africa) MACWUSA working with Comrades such as Fikile Kobese , Dennis Neer and Themba Duze .Later on Cde Aubrey became part of the leadership of the civic movement up to national level of SANCO with Cdes Dan Sandi , Henry Fazzie , Thembile Bete , Lechesa Tsenoli. Comrade Mali rose organically within the mass democratic movement and proved to be a prolific organiser and mobiliser.
Cde Mali also formed part of the underground operations and has been part of the MK Liberation War Veterans regional leadership and ANC Veterans League member in NMB Region. ANC deployed Comrade Mali to be a Public Representative Councillor (PR) from 2000 to 2006 and later deployed as Ward 50
Councillor representing Kwa Langa in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality from 2006 until 2011.
Cde Mali will be remembered as a champion of the rights of landless and fearless fighter for a better life for all South Africans especially the poor and marginalized.
The ANC joins the community of Kariega in saluting Comrade Aubrey Mali who have dedicated his entire working life to the Local Government sector and civic movement.
You have run your race, you have fought a good fight. You can now rest in eternal peace.
Give our warm regards to Myekeni Seyisi , Nosipho Dastile , Fikile Kobese , Wonga Nkala, Duma Nxarane, Mike Ndzotoyi, Henry Fazzie , Edgar Ngoyi, Bicks Ndoni , Noninzi Luzipho , Mama Mabhala , Ncediso Captain, Mike Kwenaite and all the heroes and heroines to whom we owe our freedom and democracy and to whom we shall forever be indebted.
