FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape extends its warmest congratulations to the Amathole region on the successful conclusion of its 5th regional conference, held from 20th to 22nd March 2026. The conference received and adopted all reports, including political, organisational, and financial reports. The conference also featured breakaway commissions to discuss socio-economic policy, ideological, and organisational matters, and was addressed by the Provincial Chairperson, Cde Oscar Mabuyane, and the Secretary General, Cde Fikile Mbalula. This milestone achievement underscores the region’s deep commitment to strengthening its structures and deepening its engagement with the Amathole community.
We are pleased to announce the election of the new Regional Executive Committee (REC) led by the following officials to lead ANC Amathole: Regional Chairperson: Cde Sheilla Xego, Deputy Chairperson: Cde Anele Ntsangana, Regional Secretary: Cde Nombuyekezo Ncetezo-Nkwenkwezi, Deputy Secretary: Cde Sanga Maneli, and Regional Treasurer: Cde Onke Mgunculu. These leaders have been entrusted with the responsibility of driving the national democratic revolution, and we are confident that they are well-positioned to propel the ANC’s agenda forward in the region.
The ANC Eastern Cape welcomes the newly elected REC and pledges its unshakeable support as they steer the organisation forward in the Amathole region. We are confident that under their astute leadership, ANC Amathole will continue to grow from strength to strength, advancing the people’s agenda and building a better life for all in the region. The Provincial leadership is committed to forging a synergistic partnership with the new regional leadership to ensure the ANC remains a potent force for transformation in the province.
We particularly welcome the election of woman as Regional Chairperson and Regional Secretary, exemplifying our organisation’s resolute commitment to empowering women in leadership positions. This achievement is a testament to the unwavering confidence in women’s leadership capabilities and continues a laudable trend in the Eastern Cape, where other regions, namely Nelson Mandela, Alfred Nzo, and WB Rubusana, have also elected women as chairpersons. The ANC Eastern Cape remains committed to its pursuit of gender equality and empowering women to assume leadership roles.
The current PEC has successfully convened peaceful regional conferences in almost all regions, with the exception of Sarah Baartman, which will be held as soon as possible. This achievement is a political testament to the stability and progress of the ANC in the Eastern Cape, contradicting unfounded claims that the organisation is unstable in the province.
The Amathole regional conference proceedings were marked by remarkable discipline, orderliness, and robust deliberations on issues affecting the people of Amathole. We commend the delegates for their maturity and commitment to the organisation, ensuring an incident-free conference. The ANC Eastern Cape is proud of the dignified manner in which the conference was conducted and is confident that the new leadership will build on this momentum ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
Issued by the ANC Eastern Cape.
