ANC EC PWC visit to OR Tambo region

Issued by the office of the ANC EC Provincial Secretary

The Provincial Working Committee ( PWC ) has arrived in OR Tambo region led by the Provincial chairperson, Pumulo Masualle. The ANC visited all OR Tambo sub regions to assess the state of branches, governance, service delivery, state of readiness towards regional conference and local government elections.

The visit was part of continuous visits by the ANC Provincial leadership to all regions. We do this as part of our responsibility to service ANC structures in order to strengthen the work of the organisation across the province. As we prepare for the up coming NGC we want to go there as a strong force to solely engage and put forward strongly policy proposal for a better ANC that delivers and transform society. We also had interest in ensuring that structures are ready as we are on the road map towards 2016 elections.

On the engagements with branches, we note with enthusiasm that ANC branches are indeed active in communities. Matters raised are an indication that branches certainly they interact with communities, they make time to look at the interest of the people. We however observed specific challenges that need continuous engagement. We need to do more political work and monitoring in the region. As the PWC, we have agreed that we must be reinforcing in the region in order to speed up work towards the regional conference, we agreed that the conference must be mid Sepetember.

The ANC is almost appreciative of progress on social infrastrure state of the art schools, improved access roads, clinics, piped water & electricity connectivity. We noted the glaring water scarcity and inadequate water regional schemes that can reticulate water to villages, a directive has been issued to the district municipality to prioritize water service. We need to increase our government intervention in various areas of service dilivery, provincial government must come here and attend to some urgent matters like water. There is a need to look at more support to all municipalities in order to improve their delivery capacity.

We also note that OR Tambo region is still legging behind industrial and labour absorptive institutions that can attract employment. The jobs shedding in major centres of economy/industry add more stress in the region as it is a major labour sending area.

We have engaged the regional leadership on all the matters raised in subregional meetings. As they go to their regional conference soon, we note that we need a strong organisation in OR Tambo. The is one of the areas in the province where people strongly have confidence in the ANC as the only hope. The region needs a strong leadership. As the PEC, we took a decision to kill factions as one of the problems currently eating the organisation. We can see in OR Tambo that the problem is still ripe. We made it clear that we are not going to tolerate it. People need the ANC not in fighting.

As the PWC, we have satisfied ourselves with state of the organisation here. We know what needs to be done and we will continue monitoring the work of the region.

On the regional conferences of Sarah Baartman and Chris Hani. We are happy on the success of the two conferences. The level of organisation in both conferences demonstrated enormous progress towards organisational stability we need as a province. The maturity of engagements makes us feel that we are indeed improving in quality of caders we send as delegates to conferences. We congratulate the newly elected leaders on both regions.
