The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape is gravely saddened by the passing of eight (8)passengers who were killed in a heartbreaking accident in Mthatha this evening.
Two minibus taxis collided head on the N2 just outside Mthatha towards Qumbu (eMakhaphetshwini).
Its a sad day for the Province, and a chilling reminder that despite the best efforts of our road traffic enforcement authorities, the numbers of lives lost to accidents on our roads remain worrying high.
We commend emergency services as well as members of the community who were on the scene to attend to the injured.
We send our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the beareved families and we call on Department of Transport, Department of Social Development , Road Accident Fund and all relevant authorities to provide all the necessary support and assistance to the families in this difficult time.
