OR Tambo School of Leadership is introducing a three-year youth-focused political education and training programme named Ruth First Leadership Development Programme (RFLDP). The main objective of the programme is to equip young people between the ages of 18 and 40 with analytical tools to scrutinise all aspects of society so as to better respond to socioeconomic challenges.
“The RFLDP includes both theoretically intensive classroom sessions as well as definition and implementation of practical value-add community-based programmes,” explains the Principal of OR Tambo School, Dr David Masondo. “With this approach we will enhance the twin abilities to understand and solve, together with the practice of doing”.
Key requirements for consideration of inclusion in RFLDP include completion of OR Tambo School’s Introduction to Political Studies which provides introductory insight into political education. In addition, applicants must be progressive activists who are active in mass-based civil society organisations, trade unions, and community-based organisations. During the selection process of participants, preference will be given to members of the Progressive Youth Alliance (PYA) structures.
Over the three years of RFLDP participants will be expected to complete at least two advanced OR Tambo School Strategic Courses per year, meaning a total of six courses. Advancement through different phases of the programme will require at least 80 percent attendance of classroom sessions, successful completion of assignments, and passing various assessments.
“RFLDP is a targeted programme and investment in the future of our country and continent, focusing on young leaders and progressive activists active in ANC structures, Progressive Youth Alliance structures, Tripartite Alliance, broader Mass Democratic Movement, civil society, and business.” concludes Dr Masondo.
Potential participants keen to enrol and complete RFLDP must submit their application through the website of OR Tambo School (https://www.ortamboschool.org.za/ruth-first-leadership…/). The closing date for applications is 14th of April 2023. Applicants who do not receive correspondence from OR Tambo School of Leadership by 12th of May 2023 must consider their applications unsuccessful.
