Kuluvuyo nochulumanco kuthi ukubalapha kwilali yase Phahlakazi ePort St Johns size ngomsebenzi omhle owenziwe ngurhulumente, ewenzela abantu balapha. Lendawo yasesaJonisi ikhe yabayindawo yeenyembezi nonxunguphalo. Into yokubulawa kwabantu eMajola bade bayokuhlala ezintabeni beshiya amakhaya wabo khange isiphathe kakuhle. Nezikhukhula zemvula ezigubungele abantu neDolophu yasesaJonisi zizikhathazile. Kodwa ndiyafuna ukuchaza apha namhlanje ukuba iqumrhu lokwakha iindlela uSanral uzokuvuselela indlela u R61 ebichatshazelwe zizikhukhula zemvula.
Iindawo esichaphazelekileyo eziquka iNtsimbini, Sinuka, Second Beach ne Cagubha zizolungiswa. I contractor ezokwenza loomsebenzi izokwaziswa kuMasipala ngale mpela nyanga sikuyo. We want this work to be done speedily so businesses can fully function in Port St Johns and that the movement of our people and goods can return to normality in Port St Johns.
Namhlanje sifuna ukubona iinyembezi zovuyo kuba sizokuvula ngokusesikweni isikolo senu esitsha kraca bantu basePhahlakazi, iGobinamba Secondary School. Lomsitho siwusingatha xa ilizwe liqukumbela inyanga ekwazalwa ngayo uMongameli Nelson Mandela, inkokheli eyayixabisile kakhulu imfundo.
Kaloku nguMadib’ omde owakhe wathi imfundo sisixhobo onokusisebenzisa ukutshintsha ihlabathi. Ikwanguye uDalibhunga owathi ngemfundo intombi ye hlwempu ingaba ngugqirha, umntwana womsebenzi wase fama angaba nguMongameli weLizwe.
Ndicinga nanijonge ukuphumeza lamazwi ka Madiba bahlali balapha xa naniqala esi sikolo ngo 1995 ngamalizo. Nanifuna ukunika abantwana benu ikamva eligcono, nibanike iimpiko ukuze bandizele emafini ebomini. Ndifuna ukunibulela ngombono wenu wokuqala esi sikolo ngo 1995 ngamalizo wenu. Siyayikhuthaza kakhulu into yokuba abantu bakuthi bavuke bazenzele, urhulumente afike andise apho baqale khona.
Namhlanje kufike ixesha lokuba nani bantu balapha ePhahlakazi nizive nine lunda kuba urhulumente wongeze kwimbewu enayityala ngo 1995. Sityale imali eyi R124.8 million ukunakhela isikolo senu kwaye sinazo zonke izixhobo ezifumaneka kwizikolo zalemihla.
Ngo 1995 naqala esi sikolo ngamangumbi angaphantsi kwesihlanu okufundela kodwa namhlanje isikolo senu sinamagumbi ayi 48 okufundela. Isikolo senu namhlanje sinamangumbi angasese anesidima nakhuselekileyo ayi 51. Abantwana benu abazokuthwaxwa lunxano kuba isikolo senu sinama tanki amanzi ayi 54 akhongozela amanzi emvula. Ndingatsho ngeliphandle ukuba inkqubela phambili nophuhliso lufikile ePhahlakazi.
Isicelo sethu kuni kukuba nilukokose utyalo mali esilwenze apha lwe R124.8 million yabarhafi baseMzantsi Afrika. Ezinye ilali azikabinaso isikolo esifana nesi senu. Asingethandi ukuba sixhwithwe esi sikolo, simoshwa, sityhuthulwe nikhona ningabahlali balapha. Likamva lezizukulwana zalapha esi sikolo, kufuneka nibenomona ngaso.
Kubafundi balapha sifuna ukuthi anibacinananga nani. Nifanele ukufunda kwisikolo esihle njengabantwana bonke beliphondo. Please take care of your school so that your younger brothers and sisters who are still in primary school can find it in good condition. We expect you to be proud of your school and protect it against anyone who wants to vandalize it. When you are successful in life, please come back to invest in this school to help those who will come after you. On that note let me wish the grade 12 class of this school all the best for their final examinations this year.
Bantu basePhahlakazi, namhlanje asivuli nje isakhiwo. Sivula ingcango zamathuba obomi obungcono babantwana benu. Sikhanyisa isibane solwazi kubantwana benu Sixhobisa inkokheli zangomso ezingabantwana benu. The opening of this school is about the collective dreams and aspirations of this community, taking a tangible form here in Gobinamba Secondary School.
I am calling upon all of us to make this school a beacon of learning, a sanctuary of knowledge, and a catalyst for change. As we take this momentous forward step today in the development of a black child, we must remember that the education journey is long, and the path may sometimes be steep. But I assure you, the joy of progress, and the satisfaction of seeing your children’s growth, will make every hurdle worthwhile.
Singurhulumente wenu okhokelwa yi ANC siyibeke phambili imfundo kwizinto ezibalulekileyo ekufuneka sixhobise ngazo abantu beliphondo lethu. Yiyo lonto isabelo mali esininzi sisiya kwiSebe leZemfundo apha ephondweni (R38 billion). Sisebenzisa lomali ukubhatala ooTishala, ukuthenga izixhobo zokufundisa ezifana neencwadi, nokutyisa abantwana esikolweni.
Lo mali ikwasincedisa ukuba sakhe izikolo ezisemgagathweni ophezulu ezifana nesi senu iGobinamba Senior Secondary School. Ayonto entsha kuthi ukwakha izikolo ingakumbi ezo zazakhiwe ngodaka ezilalini. Ukusuka ngo 2019 sakhe izikolo ezintsha eziyi 88 kwiphondo lonke jikelele. Lonto isinike amagumbi amatsha okufundela ayi 3 835. In those classrooms there are 620 specialist classrooms such as laboratories, media centers and libraries which are crucial to improve education outcomes.
Every classroom in this new Gobinamba Senior Secondary School building will be a haven for ideas, dialogue, and growth. The sports fields will ensure that our learners understand the importance of a healthy mind and a health body. The science labs will inspire curiosity and the computer labs will open a world of digital opportunities to learners. For that to happen we need connectivity, it is no use having a media centre that has no internet access.
I am happy to announce that Gonibamba Senior Secondary School has been fully connected for internet access by the Universal Service and Access Agency South Africa. They have already connected 294 sites in OR Tambo District and are planning to connect a further 300 sites. Their CEO Ms Cwayita Madikizela is here today let us appreciate her with a round of applause. The learners of this school will be able to do research and communicate with the world through the connectivity that has been installed by USAASA.
Gobinamba Secondary School must leave no stone unturned in its pursuit of providing the highest education standards to all its students in line with the school motto which says: Learn to succeed.
Now that government has built this beautiful state of the art school, we expect the management and stakeholders of this school to produce great performance outcomes. The academic performance of this school must be drastically improved. There was a period of good consistent performance at this school from 40 % in 2004 to 100 % in 2009. But after that you have been on a disappointing free fall. Last year this school had 205 learners writing grade 12 exams and 89 of them did not pass. We must all be pained by the situation of those learners and vow here today that we will do our best to ensure the class of 2023 does better. Let us use the official opening of this school as the dawn of a new era of learning and development for the children of Gobinamba Senior Secondary School. The state-of-the-art school we have built here must motivate all the stakeholders of this schools; teachers, learners, and parents to work together to reawaken this sleeping giant to become a centre of academic excellence.
The opening of this new school marks an important milestone in our collective effort to develop the human capital of our province. Education is not just about traditional academic learning. It is also about providing technical, vocational, and tertiary education opportunities that are affordable and quality assured. Gobinamba Secondary School must ensure that our young people acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to become responsible, productive citizens who can contribute to the social and economic well-being of our communities and nation.
Teaching and learning at this school must extend beyond mere literacy and numeracy. It must nurture learners to be aware of their responsibilities towards society. Each learner at this school must be given enough attention and support by educators to come out of this school a better person. We understand the enormous responsibility we are putting on the shoulders of our educators, hence from time to time we invest in their continuous training and capacitation to withstand the task of molding the leaders of tomorrow.
Let me share with you a matter of concern and opportunity for our province with regards to our education sector. There are 30 % of educators in the province who are due for retirement. That is about 15 000 educators who will be out of the system very soon. Their exit will open space for us to recruit 15 000 young people into the education sector. We aim to repurpose unemployed graduates in our province to become educators because for teaching and learning to happen we need educators. The good thing is that many unemployed graduates are already working as EAs in our schools and have demonstrated a desire and commitment to join the education sector. We believe this initiative will make a huge dent in youth unemployment in our province and introduce new energy and ideas to improve teaching and learning outcomes in our schools. We will provide further details to our people xa ivuthiwe lembiza siyiphekayo.
Bantu base Phahlakazi isikolo sifuna kubanjiswane ukuze siqhube kakuhle kwizifundo. Zonke izikolo ezipaselwayo ngabantwana zigqame ngobambiswano lootishala, abazali nabafundi. Sondelani esikolweni nincendisane ne Nqununu ukusa abantwana benu empumelelweni.
All stakeholders of this school must pledge today, that this school will be a centre where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired.
Today, we are not just opening a new school. We are laying the cornerstone of our children’s future. We are making a commitment that we will spare no effort in nurturing the young minds entrusted to us and equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to shape the world of tomorrow. We are investing in a future where every child – boy or girl, – has a fair chance to excel and prosper.
Let this school stand as a testament of our collective Will to uplift our community through education.
As I look around and see the hopeful, gleaming eyes of our children, I am filled with a sense of anticipation and excitement for what the future holds. Let’s join hands, work together, and ensure that this institution of learning becomes a beacon of hope, and a symbol of our community’s resilience and determination.
May Gobinamba Secondary School become the alma mater of countless future leaders, innovators, and change-makers.
Thank you.
