Press Statement: Resolutions of the recent ANC EC PEC Meeting

19 August 2014

Issued by the office of the ANC EC Provincial Secretary

On the Occasion of the ANC EC PEC meeting that took place on the 18th August 2014 in Calata House. Amongst other matters discussed, the PEC took the following resolutions;

On OR Tambo, Alfred Nzo and Chris Hani Municipalities, the ANC PEC has resolved to reshuffle both the Troika and the Mayoral Committees.

In Chris Hani, reshuffling will take place in the district municipality troika and mayoral committee and the following local municialities; Ngcobo, Lukhanji, Tsolwana and Malahleni Municipality.

On the appeal of the Chris Hani disbandment, the PEC welcomed the decision by the NWC to confirm its decision. The appointed RTT is now continuing with stabilising the organisation in that region, in due time, it is expected to take the region to its regional conference. The PEC observed serious elements of ill discipline in the region and is determined to deal accordingly with all those behind instability. All those involved in the allegations of wrong doing and maladministration in various municipalities will face the law.

On Nelson Mandela Memorial Fund; the ANC PEC reaffirm its earlier position that this is a legal matter, it can only observe the matter and all its processes as the investigation continues. The ANC understands the seriousness of this matter and we know how the story affects the citizens of the Eastern Cape. We however can not intervene in the legal processes but only deal with the matter once concluded by the court of law. We call again the public and ANC members not to fall in a trap of speculating issues as entertained in the public space, we humble request you to be calm and allow court processes to unfold. We maintain the constitutional principle of innocent until proven guilty. The ANC has established Integrity Commission to look at matters that seem to be damaging the image of the organisation, as we speak, all the BCM ANC deployees and leaders affected in the Nelson Mandela Fund Saga have already appeared in the ANC National Integrity Commission. The PEC will then take into task all those found guilty by the court of law.

We are committed to fight corruption and demonstrate clean governance in all municipalities and in government departments in the EC Province.

As the ANC, we dismiss and distance ourselves on Mondays Daily Dispatch about Buffalo City Municipal Manager, this matter was never in the meeting agenda and therefore was never discussed.

The ANC PEC in the EC province continue to monitor and assess performance of government, in particular local government. We acknowledge the seriousness of challenges faced by our municipalities across a number of EC regions, as the PEC we still having discussion on the assessment of the performance by Nelson Mandela, Sarah Bartman, Joe Gqabi, Buffalo City municipalities and all other municipalities. We will then communicate resolutions after we conclude the assessment. It is our responsibility and it is critical that we look at details of all governance matters before we make decisions to intervene.
