The African National Congress (ANC)in the Eastern Cape joins all South Africans in wishing the 2018 Class of Matric good luck as they start their final examinations on Monday,15 October 2018. These exams are the zenith of twelve years of hard work by students and educators, and will determine the future of these students.
We strongly believe that the success of this country lies in education. As you sit for your examinations, regard this opportunity as golden because there are children somewhere else in the world who have been denied the opportunity to learn due to a variety of reasons, chief among them being war and civil strife.
For us to transform our country, we need to take collective action in supporting our children’s education in the quest of enabling, empowering, uplifting and changing lives for the better.
If we want to see the world as a just and fair place where everyone is given equal opportunities, education is what we require. Education is a must if we want to do away with the existing differences between different social classes and genders. It opens a whole world of opportunities for the poor so that they may have an equal shot at sustainable jobs.
We call on communities, educators and families to provide much needed support to the students and to ensure that their studying is not disturbed.
We call upon parents to support your children and give them encouragement as they write these examinations.
As parents across the colour lines, we should stand up and play a positive role in the education of our children because they are definitely leaders of tomorrow.
