The African National Congress (ANC) congratulates Dr Patrice Motsepe, who was today elected unopposed as President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The ANC believes that Dr Motsepe, a successful businessman and owner of Mamelodi Sundowns, is the right person to take African football to greater heights. We are confident that, working with his collective, he will transform African football and turn it into a force to reckon with in the same way he turned Mamelodi Sundowns into a formidable and feared winning machine on the African continent. Mamelodi Sundowns are the 2016 African Champions and have won a record ten titles since the start of the Premier Soccer League in 1996.
He takes over the reigns at CAF at a time when African football is in desperate need of commercial and business acumen as well as good governance. A huge responsibility has thus been placed on his shoulders. The ANC is confident that this son of the soil will not disappoint, but will successfully discharge this responsibility.
