The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape is saddened by the passing away of former Mnquma Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Comrade Ndyebo Skelenge yesterday, Wednesday 27th April 2022.
Comrade Skelenge was one of the first democratically-elected councilors in December 2000 . He served as the Deputy Executive Mayor of Mnquma Local Municipality. In 2001 he was elected Executive Mayor, a position he held until 2006.
ANC deployed him as Portfolio Head -Local Economic Development and Planning later served as Executive Mayor in March 2018 until July 2018. Comrade Skelenge was elected as a PR Councillor at Amathole District Municipality until October 2021. He gave an honest rendering of his time and energy on the front line of local democracy in both Mnquma Local Municipality and Amathole District Municipality.
He passes away at a time when government is seeking to remodel local government, particularly the implementation of the District Development Model.
Comrade Skelenge’s dedication and compassion towards people and his work will be solely missed by all those he touched and will remain embedded in our hearts. He is leaving behind a remarkable legacy of service delivery.
The ANC lowers it’s banners to honor Comrade Ndyebo Skelenge for his contribution in our struggle for freedom and to him we say Ndlela ntle Mawawa, Senzwa, Mpinga, Bholokoqoshe, Ntoyomntwana ingaphuma uboya ilingene abadala.
We extend our sincere condolences and sympathies to the Skelenge family, friends and comrades.
