The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape is deeply saddened by the passing away of former MK Combatant, Lieutenant – General Sindile Pitso Mfazi.
Lieutenant- General Sindile Pitso Mfazi succumbed to Covid-19 related complications yesterday, Thursday 8th July 2021. The 59 year old Lieutenant General Mfazi was born in 1962 at Mdantsane in East London.
Lieutenant- General Mfazi was not a coward. Like many fearless youth of his time, he responded to the clarion call of President Oliver Tambo to render apartheid unworkable and make the country ungovernable. He joined the Congress of South African Students (COSAS), the foremost organization of the militant and revolutionary youth in its formation in 1979.
Mfazi left the country for Angola to join UMkhonto WeSizwe.He was part of a generation that chose to fight, rather than submit, as called upon by the founding MK manifesto. He remained within the ranks of MK until his return to the country in 1991.
Upon his return back from exile, Comrade Pitso Mfazi was employed by the South African Police Services (SAPS). He was involved in the integration of liberation army troops into the new South African Police Services (SAPS) . Lieutenant- General Sindile Pitso Mfazi was employed at the following components within SAPS :
VIP Protection Services, Inter – Departmental Intelligence, Crime Information Management Centre.
He was later appointed to the position of Deputy Provincial Commissioner in the Western Cape, from 2003 until 2008 where he was responsible for Corporate Services. In 2008, he was transferred to the Eastern Cape where he was appointed as Provincial Head of Crime Intelligence until 2018.
In 2018, Lieutenant- General Mfazi moved to the police’s National Head Office in Pretoria after National Commissioner Sithole appointed him as the Deputy National Commissioner of Management Advisory Services. From March 2020 until his passing , Lieutenant General Mfazi was the Deputy National Commissioner of Crime Detection.
As we unite in grief again, we do so truly proud to celebrate the glorious life of this distinguished policeman and loyal servant of the people of South Africa, Lieutenant – General Sindile Pitso Mfazi.
We extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Mfazi family, relatives, friends, colleagues at SAPS and comrades within the Congress Movement and MKMVA family.
Farewell freedom fighter, combatant, commissar, MK soldier and dedicated servant of the people.
