The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern mourns the untimely passing away of Comrade Nkosifikile Gqomo. He departed the world of the living last night ,Monday 3 October 2022 after a short illness.
Comrade Nkosifikile Gqomo joined the liberation struggle in the late 80’s forming part of the student movement, Congress of South African Students (COSAS)in the former Transkei and worked tirelessly in contributing towards the attainment of democracy.
He served the ANC Youth League Provincial Executive Committee (Eastern Cape) with utmost diligence and humility and had excellent mobilisation and communication skills .These features and skills were combined with a clear political and ideological vision and understanding of the ANCYL and the Congress Movement. ANC Youth League in the Eastern Cape appointed Comrade Gqomo as its Provincial Spokesperson considering his communication skills .
Comrade Nkosifikile has demonstrated unquestionable loyalty and dedication to the African National Congress throughout his life by serving the ANC wherever it has deemed it fit to deploy him. He was later deployed as the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MAYCO) responsible for Planning, Research and Intergovernmental Relations at the OR Tambo District Municipality after the November 2021 local government elections . He got elected as the ANC OR Tambo Regional Treasurer at its Regional Conference in December 2021.
The dialectical relationship between the masses and the mass party of the revolution as decisive factors critical for the victory of the national democratic revolution was one of the defining hall marks of Comrade Nkosifikile’s revolutionary outlook. Fundamental to this was the understanding that, critical to the victory of the national democratic revolution are not leaders and parties but the masses under the correct leadership of the mass party of the revolution.
As we mourn his untimely passing, we take solace in the purposeful and exemplary life that Comrade Nkosifikile Gqomo led. We weep because we love the kind person that Nophemba was , we weep for the people who loved him and the country that he loved.
We owe this debt of gratitude to you Comrade Nkosifikile Gqomo for your selfless sacrifices!
As we lower our banners in his fitting tribute, we do so with a profound sense of appreciation to his family for their generosity of sharing the life of their father, son and uncle with the African National Congress.
We wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the Gqomo family , relatives, friends, colleagues and comrades at the OR Tambo District Municipality.
