ANC EC sends condolences to families of taxi crash victims

African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape extends its sincere condolences to the families of people who lost their lives in a horrific taxi crash near the Orange River in the Free State which claimed the lives of nine women, and one man on Sunday, 6 May 2018, an accident which never received any media coverage.

According to reports the taxi was carrying women hawkers who were from Johannesburg, who mainly trade in clothing. All the victims are from Nelson Mandela Bay. The last victim passed on Tuesday, 15 May 2018 due to injuries she sustained.

We are deeply disappointed and saddened that despite various road safety measures and legislative interventions South African road accident statistics remain stubbornly high.

The ANC is very concerned about the high rate of accidents involving public transport. We urge owners of public transport to comply with safety regulatory standards to prevent accidents on our roads.

The African National Congress in the Eastern Cape extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and calls on ANC structures, ANC Ward Councillors in Nelson Mandela Bay and government to provide all the necessary assistance to them at this difficult time.
