The African National Congress(ANC) in the Eastern Cape held a Special PEC meeting on Wednesday, 12 December 2018 at Canon James Calata House in King Williams Town to consider a report from the Provincial List Committee on the outcomes of the Provincial List Conference.
The PEC welcomed the outcomes of the Provincial List Conference, and in appreciation of the good work also noticed that the outcomes affirms the democratic character of the ANC. The ANC has achieved ANC policy on gender parity, youth , geographical spread , national question , representation and continuity and the very character of the ANC of a Broad Church.
In line with its democratic process of nominating its cadres as Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Provincial Legislatures (MPLs), the African National Congress (ANC) is pleased to report that our Provincial List Conference held on Sunday 9 December 2018 – was a smooth sailing process, confirming the stability of the ANC EC Province.
The ANC’s Provincial List Committee (PLC) further consolidated the outcomes of the List Process for both the Province to Province List and the Province to National list and prepared a submission and endorsement by the NEC as the last lap of the ANC List Processes.
We are committed to the process of building a government on the principles of transparency, fairness and consultation.
The ANC has placed much emphasis on selecting candidates for Parliament and provincial legislatures that have a track record of involvement in communities, who are familiar with consultative processes, and who are able to forge partnerships in implementation.
We are also pleased by the character of the provincial list conference and have noted high levels of participation by branches through delegates. These were preceded by Branch General Meetings (BGMs) where nomination of candidates started.ANC branches selected candidates on the basis of their own experiences and merit.
Expectedly the processes that would follow will be a rigorous Screening of candidates to ensure that all candidates that would represent the ANC are above reproach and meet all the necessary requirements of good standing in the society.
No candidate of the ANC would be allowed to form part of the list if they have a criminal record and are generally of questionable character. The ANC has demonstrated that it is serious about the renewal of values and its standing.
The ANC is very satisfied with all the processes to be followed and given that the completion of the processes will be in the ANC Extended NEC meeting to consolidate and finalize the Province to Province , Province to National and National to National list on the 4th January 2019.
We therefore wish all Eastern Cape ANC members and the general population a period of good rest with their families and friends and look forward to welcoming 2019 with a great deal of vigour and energy.
