The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape has learnt of the existence and circulation of a letter purportedly written by a Mr. Bongile Nkola to the President of the ANC and the Republic, Cde Cyril Ramaphosa. The letter smears the leadership of the ANC in the province by spreading malicious allegations of corruption about three ANC deployees.
The ANC in the Province remains committed in the fight against corruption and reaffirms the decision taken by the ANC National Executive Committee on members of the organisation that are formally charged for acts of corruption. As the ANC PEC, we are fully implementing the ANC NEC decision as part of our commitment to renewing both our movement and our country.
We however strongly caution against some individuals that are hellbent at exploiting our principled fight against corruption for their narrow and factional interests and to sow divisions within the structures of the organisation and the movement in general.
The ANC contends that anyone with any information regarding corrupt activities should as a matter of principle approach law enforcement agencies, as they are empowered to investigate any allegations. In the same vein, we are equally concerned with the emerging trend of individuals who make wild and unfounded claims without qualifying them through any evidence.
The organisation considers these actions as tantamount to casting aspersions on the integrity of the ANC leadership in general and to the cited leaders in particular. Moreover, we view this as systematic defamation of character and strongly condemn this immature behaviour, which may tarnish our leader’s public image, reputation and good work in government.
The ANC in the Eastern Cape continues to have full confidence in its Provincial Chairperson and Premier, Cde Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane as the leader of the leadership collective of the renewal project of the ANC in the Province, and any attempts to discredit him as a leader with integrity are rejected.
