The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape the welcomes the election of Cde Willem Safers as Mayor and Cde Thembekile Spogter as Chief Whip on Tuesday, 7 June 2022 at Dr Beyers Naude Council meeting.
Both comrades were elected after a vote of no confidence against the Mayor, Ewald Loock.
We trust that the new leadership will speed up service delivery and ensure that there is good governance coupled with political and administrative stability. They must make sure that Dr Beyers Naude Municipality is a place where businesses can thrive and where investors can be confident that they will achieve sustainable returns.
As the ANC in the Province, we also welcome the renaming of Engcobo Local Municipality, Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality who is one our struggle stalwart. We hope that the renaming pays homage to his ideals and values and the municipality will continue to improve the lives of its citizens with access to basic services.
