FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The African National Congress (ANC) in the OR Tambo Region strongly rejects and condemns the false and malicious reports circulating on social media, alleging that its Regional Office hid blankets intended for victims of the recent disaster in Mthatha.
These unfounded accusations, made by individuals who staged a protest outside our offices, are nothing more than an opportunistic attempt to mislead the public and discredit the ANC for narrow electioneering purposes.
We wish to make it categorically clear: the ANC Regional Office served as a receiving centre for donations from ANC members and supporters who were expressing solidarity with those affected by the floods. This is a role we have consistently played whenever disaster strikes—mobilising humanitarian support and delivering aid to affected communities with compassion and integrity.
The ANC considers it both unfortunate and deeply insensitive that some within our own ranks have chosen to exploit the pain and suffering of disaster victims to gain political mileage ahead of our upcoming Regional Conference—without offering any meaningful contribution toward the solution.
We reaffirm our commitment to standing with communities in times of need and condemn in the strongest terms the spreading of misinformation aimed at sowing division and undermining the values of the ANC.
