ANC OR TAMBO STATEMENT ON THE HIGH COURT JUDGMENT

The African National Congress (ANC) in the O.R. Tambo Region notes and welcomes the judgment of the High Court dismissing the application challenging the outcomes and legitimacy of the 9th O.R. Tambo Regional Conference held in June 2025.

The judgment reaffirms the integrity of the organisational processes of the ANC and confirms the legitimacy of the decisions taken by delegates during the Regional Conference. We further note the Court’s decision to award costs against the applicants.

The ANC has always maintained that organisational matters must be approached with discipline, political maturity and unwavering respect for the Constitution of the movement. The judgment brings certainty and finality to a matter that has generated unnecessary divisions within our ranks and allows the movement to focus on its historic mission of serving the people of O.R. Tambo.

As we welcome this outcome, we call upon all members, leaders and structures of the ANC to draw lessons from this process and recommit themselves to the task of organisational renewal, unity and cohesion. The ANC remains bigger than individual ambitions and factional interests. Our primary responsibility is to unite the movement behind the aspirations of our people and the mandate entrusted to us by our communities.

The people of O.R. Tambo expect an ANC that is united in action, resolute in purpose and focused on addressing poverty, unemployment, inequality and underdevelopment. This judgment therefore presents an opportunity for all cadres to close ranks, strengthen organisational discipline and dedicate themselves to the work of rebuilding public confidence in the movement.

As we prepare for the forthcoming Local Government Elections, the ANC in O.R. Tambo calls on all members to put aside divisions and unite behind the collective task of mobilising our communities in support of the programme of radical socio-economic transformation and a better life for all. With less than five months remaining before Election Day, the Regional Elections Team (RET) has commenced an intensive programme to assess, strengthen and reignite election structures across the region, while also intensifying preparations for the upcoming Open Voter Registration Weekend. Local Election Teams (LETs) and Branch Election Teams (BETs) are urged to implement robust build-up programmes aimed at voter registration, voter education and community mobilisation, with a particular focus on attracting new voters and young people, especially in institutions of higher learning, TVET colleges and high schools. The success of our election campaign will depend on the unity, discipline and activism of every ANC member as we work to secure an overwhelming mandate to advance the aspirations of our people.

The ANC remains steadfast in advancing the cause of the National Democratic Revolution and building a united, non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous South Africa.
