ANC Press statement on the PE handing over of housing title deeds

Issued by the Office of the Provincial Secretary

The ANC in the province welcomes the handover of 97 title deeds to Motherwell community in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro by the provincial Human Settlement MEC, Cde Helen Sauls-August.

The handing over of these titles to the occupants of these properties is inline with the ANC policy on human settlement, the freedom charter, ensuring provision of decent houses to all the people of this country, particularly the poor.

The fact that the ANC led government handed over these title deeds to the occupants, who now own these homes, brings to pass the strategic objective of the liberation struggle, the call by the Pebco comrades who advocated for the rent and bond payment boycott in protest against inhumane conditions under apartheid.

This handover is the result of the manifestation of our elections manifesto commitments where the ANC promised better life for our communities.

The ANC government will continue assisting our people to own decent houses for them to have homes as part of building better communities where all our people enjoy a better life.

We thank the department, and MEC Sauls-August in particular for the good work they are doing to meet the needs of our people and we encourage anyone who resides in such properties to participate in the programme driven by the MEC to handover title deeds of these houses to the occupants.

This programme is a result of cooperative work between SANCO, Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, Provincial Human Settlement department, ANC structures in the metro and local communities.

Ends…
