Press Statement of the ANC Sarah Baartman Region on the occasion of the re – election of councillor Yandiswa Maya Vara and Nomhle Gaga as both the Speaker and Executive Mayor of Makana Municipality

The Regional Executive Committee of Sarah Baartman Region is retaliating it’s initial confident view that councillor Nomhle Gaga is the best suitable candidate of the ANC to fill the position of the Executive Mayor of Makana Municipality. It does not hesitate her struggle credentials, administrative capacity and political knowledge on how to address urgent immediate service delivery challenges in Makana. She is more expected to advance institutional transformation, drive the financial boost of the Municipality and further advance socio – economic transformation.

It is as well welcome the re – election of Yandiswa Maya Vara as the new speaker of Makana Municipality.  The ANC has properly groomed her and invested a lot of energy in entrenching knowledge in her political growth. Her age (youth) and the fact the she was a Mayoral Committee Member in the Sarah Baartman District Municipality is an added advantage,  she will be able to reimbueing and rejuvenating the Makana Municipal Council with fresh and dynamic ideas. Further she is expected to oversee the implementation of the council resolutions, instill public confidence of the people of Makana Municipality through intense public participation programmes, the adherence to rules of order and instill discipline in Makana Council.

The ANC is vindicated by the political grandstanding of the opposition of going to court rather than engaging and resolving political issues in the correct political arena (council). The ANC retaliates it’s initial position that the DA didn’t have any case against the election of the speaker hence it was not in council at a time she was elected in a quorating council meeting, this was a mere political grandstanding.

Once more it affirm that the resignation of both councillor Gaga as the Mayor and Yandiswa Vara as the Speaker was informed by a guidance given to them by the ANC not by what has appeared as media and political propaganda of the DA that insinuated that they resign through a realisation that they don’t have capacity.

Further it has been proven that ANC Councillors in Makana are United and objectively focusing in advancing the transformation agenda. The DA lied to public that councillors of the ANC are divided and uttered false hopes in the public domain that some ANC Councillors will vote with the opposition, this proves once more that this party is just a mere empty vessel hence all 19 ANC councillors voted for councillor Nomhle Gaga.This stunt of the opposition undermines the people of Makana and it proves to them once more that the DA does not worth to be trusted anymore.

The ANC is positioning itself towards attaining an overwhelming victory in Makana in the upcoming 2016 Local Government Elections.
