As the ANC in the Eastern Cape we congratulate Dr Sizwe Mabizela on his appointment to the position of Principal and Vice Chancellor by the Rhodes University’s Council.
We have noted his passion on education, which extends far beyond the lecture rooms to issues of development and other matters of transformation both in the province and nationally.
At the time when our country invests more on education, skills development, we rely on the wisdom of progressive academic leaders like him to increase the University’s contribution to provincial and development.
We are confident that together with his leadership collective, Dr Mabizela will lead the University skillfully to the benefit of the people of the Eastern Cape.
The role of this University in particular, in the current democratic dispensation is to plough more resources, information into our youth in order for our country to be amongst best knowledge producers not only in the continent but also in the world.
We wish him well in his new responsibility and as the ANC we will always work with him and in that spirit, we will welcome his contribution in the broader development of society.
