The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) in the Eastern Cape Province welcomes the parole of Cde Andile Lungisa.
It is unfortunate that Cde Lungisa was incarcerated for defending himself against the attack by the Democratic Alliance Councillors during the Council meeting. He had served his time and decision by the Department of Correctional Services to parole him is mostly welcomed. Cde Lungisa does not belong to prison.
It was unfortunate that when addressing the public, Cde Lungisa utterered words that are not assisting in building the unity of the ANC in the Province. The ANCWL frowns upon Cde Lungisa for such utterances. As a seasoned cadre of our movement, Cde Lungisa must at all times strive towards defending the unity and integrity of the organisation and its principles, and combat any tendencies towards disruptions and factionalism.
All cadres of the movement including Cde Lungisa must work towards making the ANC an effective instrument of liberation in the hands of the people. The ANC which is not united will not achieve the goals of National Democratic Revolution.
The ANCWL in the Province calls on all cadres of the movement to desist from any public spats. There is high level of unemployment, poverty, gender based violence, high COVID-19 infections etc in the Province that requires an united ANC which is not at war with itself. The unity of the ANC must be sacrosanct at all times and seasoned cadres of our movement must be at the forefront of building that unity.
The ANCWL supports the ANC PEC of the Eastern Cape led by Cde Oscar Mabuyane and his collective and calls on all the members of the movement including Cde Lungisa to rally behind the leadership. Conferences comes and go, comrades have an absolute right to have preferences of leadership towards conferences. However, it is the responsibility of all comrades including Cde Lungisa to rally behind the outcome of the conference in terms of leadership and policies.
ANCWL welcomes the parole of Cde Lungisa and frowns upon some of his public utterances.
