ANCYL Statement on ANC overwhelming victory in Ncwanca by-elections

27 November 2014

Issued by the office of the ANCYL Provincial Secretary

The ANCYL in the province of Eastern Cape receives with extreme excitement the victory on Nkwankca council with serious majority. The ANC has maintained the wards and the PR seats it had before by-elections.

The victory of the ANC is a living testimony that ANC is rooted among the masses of our people and no one is bigger than the ANC. The Councillors that have been voted in office must, unlike those who were recalled, prioritise delivering services to the people of Ncwanca. We hope the council will not divide the people of Ncwanca along the towns that constitute the municipality like the Qhamgwana council had selfishly done.

The council must work hard to change for the better the conditions of young people who in their majority voted the ANC in office. As the ANCYL we will give the council 30 days in office to come up with clear plans to turn the tide against grinding poverty to youth in particular and humanity in general in that municipal boundary. We will further engage sector government departments and private sector to intensify their work and job creation be prioritised. ANCYL branches in that area will work with the ANC to restore order in those communities. We will use our power to deal with rebels that continue to disrupt the work of the ANC in that municipality.
