PREMIER SHOCKED AND SADDENED BY THE BRUTAL KILLING OF VC’s DRIVER

Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane is deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the brutal killing of Mboneli Vesele who was the driver of the University of Fort Hare’s Vice Chancellor, Sakhele Buhlungu.

The incident is reported to have occurred on Friday night (06January 2023), when an unknown vehicle with unidentified occupants approached, fired gunshots and fatally wounded the driver. The Vice Chancellor was not in the car at the time of the incident.

The Premier has earlier today sent a message of condolence to the Vice Chancellor. “We send our deepest sympathy to the Vesele family, friends and the university community at large. This is a great loss to the family and the VC, as well as a sad start to the year for all the affected,” the Premier said.

The incident occurs just a day after the gruesome murder of four members of the Tshwane family in Qumbu.

“As citizens of this province, we cannot allow violent criminals to terrorise us in this way. We place our trust on law enforcement to nib this in the bud. I have engaged the Provincial Commissioner and called for investigation of these incidents. Perpetrators of these crimes must be brought before the criminal justice system,”said Mabuyane.

The Premier has further called on anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects, is kindly requested to please make contact with Alice Police Station or call the crime stop number 08600 10111.
