Mayor wants support for “back to basics” campaign

Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Ben Fihla has called on councillors and senior official to commit to the “Back-to-Basics” campaign.

Addressing a workshop on the strategy, the mayor said it was “time that the municipality mastered the basic things”.

This included; councillors calling report-back meetings on a regular basis and officials being strictly monitored.

Launching the strategy last year, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Pravin Gordhan said the strategy meant that in every municipality the street light were working, pot-holes were filled, refuse was collected and electricity supplied.
