Eastern Cape MEC for Health, Sindiswa Gomba is set to host the first of its kind two day EMS Summit in the province. The summit hoped to be a game changer in how EMS services are rendered in the province and kick-start at Regent Hotel in East London this morning.
The moves comes after MEC Gomba committed to host a summit that will be an opportunity for all stakeholders to engage on measures and interventions to improve access quality of emergency medical services for the community of the Eastern Cape.
Random spate of attacks on EMS in Nelson Mandela Metro personnel, employee strikes that have been in the media over the past few months, have since been giving MEC Gomba sleepless nights. The poor response times to emergency calls has also been another area of concern of the MEC.
The objectives of the summit are:
– To review current state of EMS in the province,
– Craft a road map to improve access and quality of EMS in the EC,
– Develop a plan to improve efficiency through integration of EMS into district health platform.
The summit is expected to be attended by EMS employees, representatives of social partners and top management of the department of health.
The MEC is committed to work tirelessly with all stakeholders to improve EMC in the Eastern Cape
The media is invited to be part of this event that is another vehicle to render quality health services to our communities in the province.
