The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) in the Chris Hani Region is outraged and deeply aggrieved by the senseless and brutal killing of Nosivuyise Fihla of Chief Lam Mgudlwa Branch in Ward 8 Dr AB Xuma Sub-Region, a courageous entrepreneur who was working to build a better future for herself and her community.
What makes this heinous crime even more deplorable is that it occurred in full view of the public, right in front of municipal offices, a space that should symbolise safety, service and public trust.
This barbaric act is not just a criminal act of femicide, it is a brazen demonstration of the growing disregard for law, order and authority. That perpetrators can carry out such a violent attack in proximity to a local seat of government, without fear of consequence, points to an alarming erosion of the rule of law and the total collapse of deterrence.
We condemn this act with the full weight of our collective voice and reject the continued normalisation of the brutal killing of women, particularly within the Dr AB Xuma Sub-Region, which has witnessed a disturbing rise in gender-based violence.
The ANC Women’s League demands that those responsible for this heinous act be arrested immediately and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. We call on law enforcement authorities to treat this case with the urgency and seriousness it deserves.
We further demand a full investigation
into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
We expect a coordinated and visible deployment of policing resources in Ngcobo and the wider Dr AB Xuma Sub-Region, along with strengthened community safety mechanisms.
This is our collective fight. We must rise, organise and say with one voice, no more. We call on men in our communities to take active responsibility, to break the silence and to challenge the toxic masculinities that make this violence possible. We urge all progressive organisations, traditional
leaders, faith-based groups, and community structures to take a firm and united stand against this onslaught on the lives of women.
