The Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the African National Congress in the Eastern Cape held its first ordinary meeting on Monday, 16th May 2022 at East London International Convention Centre (ICC) in Buffalo City Metro following its election at the 9th Provincial Conference.
The PEC received and discussed a wide-ranging political overview presented by the Provincial Chairperson, Comrade Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane which reflected on the domestic and international context within which the struggle to build a National Democratic Society is being pursued. Comrade Mabuyane stated that the conference mandated the PEC and the entire Mass Democratic Movement to take bold and revolutionary decisions to take the economy back to a high growth and job creating trajectory, using all the levers of the public and the private sector and working in partnership with other critical economic players.
The PEC has impressed upon all its members, its structures across the length and breadth of the province to desist from engaging publicly on internal matters and misrepresenting the organisation’s position on issues in particular what was witnessed pre 9th Provincial Conference in the public discourse. The PEC reaffirmed the ANC’s position on use of social media platforms which should at all times be in line with the ANC Constitution and Code of Conduct and seek to advance debates and discussions in a rational and responsible manner. We therefore encourage members of the ANC to exercise their freedom of speech within the confines of ANC structures.
PEC resolved that ANC branches must strengthen their relationships with key stakeholders to enhance moral regeneration and social cohesion. Further directed all structures and activists to drive programs against abuse of drugs, alcohol, gender based violence and social ills in their communities.
The PEC appreciated the excellent work done by the PTT in organizing the successful 9th Provincial Conference which was held from 6th May to 9th May 2022 at East London International Convention Centre.
