ANC EC ON THE COMPLETION OF THE NDABAKAZI INTERCHANGE

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape celebrates the successful commissioning of the Ndabakazi Interchange on the N2 near Butterworth. This state of the art infrastructure project is a tangible fulfilment of the ANC’s 2024 Election Manifesto, which pledged to place logistics and transport at the heart of an inclusive growth strategy and to create decent work for our people.

For decades under apartheid, development was confined to the historic “white” areas, leaving rural municipalities such as Amathole chronically under?invested. The Ndabakazi Interchange marks a decisive break from that legacy. Once notorious as one of the province’s most hazardous intersections, the new interchange now enhances safety, mobility and connectivity for residents of the Amathole District and beyond.

The project has delivered a suite of transformative outcomes such as enhanced safety for motorists, pedestrians and livestock, dramatically reducing accidents at a previously treacherous crossing, smoother traffic flow and improved visibility, easing congestion along the vital N2 corridor that links our coastal ports to the interior, job creation with more than 240 local residents employed at the height of construction, providing valuable skills and experience and economic upliftment for local businesses and informal traders, who are already reporting increased foot?traffic and new trade opportunities.

Beyond its physical dimensions, the Ndabakazi Interchange is a lifeline that protects lives, stimulates local enterprise and empowers communities. It stands as a testament to what can be achieved when government, the private sector and our people work together in partnership.

The Ndabakazi Interchange is not merely a road; it is a catalyst for inclusive development that will unlock the agricultural and tourism potential of Amathole for generations to come.

The ANC remains steadfast in its commitment to transforming the Eastern Cape’s infrastructure landscape, ensuring that development reaches every corner of our province, from the bustling streets in the Western region to the remote hills of the Eastern Region to the Eastern Cape interior. We acknowledge the dedication of the project teams, contractors, and the resilient people of Amathole whose patience and cooperation made this achievement possible.

Looking ahead, the ANC is already planning complementary initiatives, including the expansion of the N2 freight corridor, the rollout of high?speed broadband to rural schools, and the development of a regional logistics hub that will further integrate Amathole into the national economy.

The ANC looks forward to many more projects that will build a prosperous, safe and inclusive Eastern Cape -the Home of Legends.
