The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Skenjana Roji District (Buffalo City Metro Region) will be holding a memorial lecture to commemorate the 24th Anniversary of the passing of Comrade Joe Slovo.
Comrade Joe Slovo was the General Secretary of the SACP, National Executive Committee Member (NEC) member of the African National Congress and the 1st Commander of Umkhonto Wesizwe alongside Nelson Mandela. He was elected into the first Democratic Parliament of South Africa and served as the first Minister of Housing. At the time of his passing, he was the SACP National Chairperson. Comrade Slovo was one of the greatest revolutionaries and tacticians our revolution ever produced. He played a vital role in the process that laid the foundation for the 1994 democratic breakthrough.
The Joe Slovo Memorial Lecture that was initially scheduled to take place on 19th January 2019 will now be held as follows:

The Joe Slovo Memorial Lecture will be addressed by the SACP Provincial Secretary, Comrade Xolile Nqatha. All alliance partners (ANC, COSATU and SANCO) will deliver messages of solidarity in the Joe Slovo Memorial Lecture. The Joe Slovo Memorial Lecture will be preceded by the SACP donation of school shoes and other items to the learners of Emntlabathi Primary School.
