The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape is saddened and deeply mourns the passing away of Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Nelson Mandela University , Professor Lungile Pepeta.
Today, we feel weak and helpless because death has robbed us of a people’s Doctor , a caring member of our society. On this day, we feel a deep sense of loss because a caring heart has ceased to beat.
We will always remember him as a true citizen who did not seek accolades regardless of his personal achievements and the positive impact he made in the lives of others. Professor Pepeta touched us in different ways and it must be understood that the tears we shed and the sense of helplessness we feel are a direct result of the void he left in our lives. We pay homage to a man who, despite his successes, remained rooted within the proximity of ordinary people. Here was a rare individual, who remained a core member of society without demonstrating any false graces, but sought to align his training and expertise with the needs of his fellow human beings.
We will miss him; and our country will miss him. His contribution in such a variety of fields made him a patriot of special quality. We mourn his loss, and offer our deepest condolences to his wife, family and many of his friends and colleagues in the medical fraternity and Nelson Mandela University at this difficult time.
May Professor Lungile Pepeta rest in eternal peace.
