ANC EC MOURNS THE PASSING AWAY OF COMRADE NCEDISO CAPTAIN

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape is saddened and deeply mourns the passing away of ANC Acting Chief Whip– Nelson Mandela Bay Council Comrade Ncediso Roosevelt”Cappie” Captain this morning after a short illness.

Comrade Captain was one of the remaning 80’s generation of leaders in the Nelson Mandela Bay Council, having joined the liberation struggle in the early 80’s and became a student activist in both Congress of South African Students (COSAS) and Young Christian Workers (YCW) where he received leadership training. He later joined the National Education Crisis Committee (NECC) which championed people’s education for people’s power.

After the unbanning of political organizations, Comrade Capitan joined the African National Congress and became the Branch Executive Committee member of one of the biggest branches in South Africa (New Brighton Branch) with a membership of 20000. Cde Captain served in the ANC Youth League Old Eastern Cape Region as Regional Treasurer. Not only has Comrade Ncediso Captain distinguished himself as a disciplined cadre of the ANC, he served the Congress Movement with distinction in various capacities where he was deployed.

ANC deployed Cde Captain as a Public Representative (PR) Councillor in 2006 and served in different portfolios and standing committees of Nelson Mandela Bay Council.Comrade Captain served in the Economic Development, Infrastructure, Human Settlements, Municipal Public Accounts Committee and Inter-Governmental Relations(IGR) Committee of Nelson Mandela Bay Council with diligence.

Comrade Cappie was deployed as Ward 17 Councillor after the 2011 local government elections, and was elected again in the 2016 local government elections a position he held until his recent appointment as Acting ANC Chief Whip in Nelson Mandela Bay Council. At the time of his passing, Cde Captain was the member of the ANC Nelson Mandela Regional Task Team (RTT).

He put the interests of the ANC and the people of Nelson Mandela Bay and South Africa above anything else. Our movement has lost a dedicated cadre – someone who was always ready to roll up his sleeves and work in the interest of the people of South Africa. We have lost a humble and diligent public representative to whom the word and practice of ‘public service’ carried a significant meaning. We will always remember Comrade Ncediso Captain for his humanity, humour and his caring nature.

We send our heartfelt condolences to the Captain family, relatives, friends and colleagues in the ANC Nelson Mandela Bay Caucus.

Lala ngoxolo Ntshilibe, Bhanqo, Ndize, Langa, Mdumane qhawe lamaqhawe!

ISSUED BY THE PROVINCIAL SECRETARY OF THE AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS, CDE LULAMA NGCUKAYITOBI
