ANC EC MOURNS THE TRAGIC PASSING OF YOUNG PEOPLE AT SCENERY PARK TARVEN

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape is deeply pained and shocked by the deaths of 21 young people at a Scenery Park tarven in East London in the early hours of this morning.

We are deeply saddened by this horrific incident . We are further disturbed by the fact that most of the victims were under age to be engaged in alcohol consumption. We are calling on our communities to work together with government to curb the growing problem of alcohol and substance abuse among young people.

Authorities need to intensify tougher enforcement of the law on liquor regulations to stem the tide against the overwhelmingly easy accessibility of alcohol to ensure that such horror incidents do not happen again.

ANC wishes those admitted to hospital a speedy recovery, and enjoined the law enforcement agencies to immediately commence with the investigations into the cause of this tragedy and Department of Social Development to give the family of the deceased and the injured the necessary support and comfort.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families at the loss of such young and promising lives.
